Around 6-8 months ago, I developed a skin condition known as eczema. For those that are not familiar with the term, it is a medical skin condition of inflammatory skin. In my case, I have "flare ups" that appear on my "elbow pits" (opposite sides of my elbow), under my arms, behind my ears, and occasionally on my face. These "flare ups" come in forms of dry skin, rashes, and sometimes blisters that are very irritating and even more embarrasing. Eek. Since I grew up with little to no acne, blemishes or really skin issues at all, this was a lot to adjust to.
If it's one thing I've learned as I've begun my life long relationship with eczema, you can bargain shop all you want, but save your money for your skin. Our skin provides us an outer shell of confidence, so it's a priority to take care of it. I have tried a number of products (both drugstore and top shelf) and DIY home remedies, and these few are taking the cake lately for my #skinscary needs.
Top Left - Kalastyle Swedish Dream Soap My great gal pal @Adrienne has been a huge support during my most recent stress related break out. This time around, it is consuming the lower portion of my face in the chin to jaw line region. Hooray for approaching post-grad life. From the sound of it, you can imagine my current insecurities. She sent me this simple, high-quality bar soap, and let. me. tell. you. HASHTAG BLESSED. I don't typically purchase bar soap, in the past the concept has just kind of sketched me out. But this stuff works wonders. I use it in the shower every night, and the scent alone sends me off to bed feeling pretty and pampered. This soap is a mineral-rich organic formula that is intertwined with sea salt particles. The light salt particles gently exfoliate your skin leaving it ideal for every day wash or shaving purposes.
Prices range depending on where you purchase it. You can find it via e-commerce sites such as Amazon, Urban Outfitters, or Anthropologie. Stand alone or sets. Adrienne found mine here.
Top Right - 100% Natural African Shea Butter
I introduce to you another staple in my evening routine thanks to @Adrienne. After I shower, I moisturize my skin with this 100% Natural African Shea Butter. I'm not crazy about the scent, but my skin has begun to visibly even out over time. Not to mention it is beginning to feel firmer. It contains a higher fat consistency when comparing it to say, coconut oil, but the solidity locks in a great deal of moisture leaving my skin feeling (and looking) smoother.
Again, prices range depending on where you purchase it. Adrienne found mine here.
Bottom Left - Lush Cosmetics Face Mask(s)
Lush creates radiant, all natural masks to match whatever skin effect you are looking to achieve. They have a shelf life of a few weeks to a few months depending on which mask you favor, which gives you a bang for your buck. I try to do a mask 2-3 times a week, even though there's really no excuse not to. You can wear them while you cook, binge watch Shameless, tidy up, or even wrap up the rest of your post shower routine.
They range in price (and size) from $8.95-$26.95 and you can order them right online if you don't feel like taking a trip to the store.
Bottom Right - Kiehl's Skin Rescuer & Lip Balm Since I live in Buffalo during the school year, I don't have time to drive home to Rochester to visit with my dermatologist regarding this stress breakout. Instead, I visited a Kiehls shop and received a quick, free consultation. It was confirmed: my rash is stress related. The associate sent me on my way with Kiehl's Skin Rescuer. I utilize this moisturizer when I wake up, and before bed. It is light and silky, and is proving to control (and even gradually eliminate) my rash. It is diluting redness, while leaving my face feeling fresh and breathable. The lip balm on the other hand is just self explanatory. I swear by this stuff!
You can purchase the Skin Rescuer here, and the Lip Balm here. I warn you, the Skin Rescuer is on the pricier side of $40, but really so worth it if you battle stress related skin conditions like mwah!
