Double Dip: Exercise While You Explore

Summer is beginning to wind down which means society is trying to cram in as many outdoor activities as possible into these last few weeks. Myself included.

Instead of committing to "something," Adrienne and I took a Sunday afternoon to explore a very minor portion of the Highland Park vicinity. That very minor portion between Robinson Drive and Reservoir Avenue allowed us to complete a very generous number of steps.

Our first stop: Warren Castle. Warren Castle was designed by Horatio Gates Warner in the mid 1800's. It is an ideal spot for senior, engagement, and wedding photos (which explains why there were so many professional photographers when we stopped by.) The castle itself is open to the public Tuesday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Our visit didn't allow us to peek inside, but if it is anything like the outside, I would imagine it is absolutely worth it. My iPhone 6S pictures just don't do it justice, but I gave it a go:

Our second stop: Mount Hope Cemetery. The cemetery is made up of 196 acres full of hills and trails ideal for running or walking. The "outdoor museum" allowed for an insightful afternoon where we learned about Rochester icons such as Charles Rau and Susan B. Anthony (I will admit, Siri came in handy.) After spending over an hour exploring, Adrienne and I agreed to look into Ghost Tours and/or Twilight Tours that are scheduled for the fall months to come.

It is an admirable concept that social media has the power to place these historical locations on our radars. I don't live downtown, so Highland Park is not a frequent stop for me. A big thank you to @rochesterny and the "explore page" on Instagram for posting such attractive images of the castle. And another big thank you to @Adrienne for having an equal interest in exploring. I encourage you all to follow the many Rochester rich social media accounts, and share your explorations with me!

xx,
